Celebrating the art of local Scottish artists

In partnership with Graystone Gallery

This summer, we’re proud to present ‘Mapped by Memory‘ a new exhibition in partnership with Edinburgh’s Graystone Gallery, featuring the expressive work of Scottish contemporary artists Ellis O’Connor and Kerry Souter.

Together, their work traces a deeply personal connection to place: two voices in conversation, painting the unseen contours of memory, identity, and terrain.

Working in gestural abstraction, Ellis O’Connor explores the raw elemental presence of the Scottish highlands and islands. Her paintings are emotional translations of landscapes shaped by weather, memory, and time. Through layered brushwork and shifting palettes, Ellis invites us to feel what lies between experience and echo – where land becomes memory and home.

Based in Ayr, Kerry Souter’s work complements this beautifully through her energetic depictions of coastal action and erosion. Repeatedly returning to familiar haunts, tidal edges, and winding paths, Kerry paints with the pulse of memory – capturing how place leaves an imprint, long after the tide has turned.

Mapped by Memory will be on display throughout the hotel until August, welcoming guests and visitors into an immersive world shaped by brushstroke and shoreline. Whether you’re passing through or staying a while, we invite you to slow down and explore the spaces between land and longing.

All artworks are available for purchase. Please contact our reception team at frontoffice@kimptoncharlottesquare.com or Graystone Gallery for more details.
