History In The Heart Of Edinburgh

Just five minutes away from Kimpton Charlotte Square visitors can find Dean Village, a stunning oasis right by the Water of Leith, Edinburgh’s main river.

The area used to be the main location of Edinburgh’s water mills, and hidden around the village you will still be able to find mill stones and stone plaques decorated with baked bread and pies. At the heart of Dean Village is Well Court, a building that used to house local mill workers, originally built in the 1880s. Don’t miss the beautiful Dean Bridge and St Bernard’s Well, both designed by Thomas Telford, and the Dean Gallery and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, located just a short walk away!
