This summer, we’re proud to present ‘Shooting Stars…Pays the Rent’, an exclusive solo exhibition showcasing original limited-edition prints by photographer Steve Read. The collection brings together his portraits from the late 90s and early 2000s, created during his years living and working in Hollywood.
Produced and curated by Kathy Speirs, this Artist in Residence exhibition captures the energy and attitude of that era, presenting a compelling mix of rappers, rock ’n’ rollers, movie stars and cultural trailblazers, from Eminem to Alanis Morissette, Ray Liotta to Lennox Lewis – shown side by side for the first time.
Each limited-edition gelatin silver print has been hand printed from the original negatives by world-renowned master printer Robin Bell, marrying editorial edge with timeless craft. Many have been unseen for over two decades, now emerging from well-travelled boxes to take on new life in this exclusive Edinburgh residency before travelling across the UK.
Running until the end of October, ‘Shooting Stars…Pays the Rent’ transforms the hotel into a gallery of cinematic energy, an invitation to wander through the faces, stories, and spirit of Hollywood at the turn of the millennium.
